Online News and Journalism in South Africa today.
The Mail and Guardian
I visited the Mail and Guardian website, I’ts called Mail and Gaurdian online, They have a very interactive website, the use of multimedia is extensive. They have videos, podcasts, and slideshows. They picture quality is clear and the audio too. With this website there is no doubt that it’s a news website, it’s serious and grown up.But at the same time you receive a large amount of information, from World news to African news and Business News. They also have a an Education page, which has stories dealing with things that effect education. And an enertainment guide, called Whats On. They are also on Twitter. The site is well designed visit it http://www.mg.co.za
SABC
The SABC website is colorful and grabs your attention, in terms of multimedia there isn’t quite a lot .I did not see any evidence of links to blogs or any videos as such. So this impacts on the interactivnesss of the site. You receive all this information about the SABC but you cannot interact with them, send them feedback. The site is http://www.sabc.co.za
The Sowetan
This website is lively and interactive, the design of the site though gives a rather cramped look and might appear too busy for some people. The site has blogs, videos, sound clips and even a poll where site visitors can vote on a certain topic. It also includes links to various topics such as,Fun Stuff, where they have a cartoon, Horoscopes, Qoutes, weird stories with Headlines such as Goats that produce spider's silk in milk they also have a page for their columnists amongst other pages. And for all those gossip lovers of course you can get your fix with the Shwashwi link.
